HELPING VICTORIAN FAMILIES GET THE SUPPORT THEY NEED

A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will support Big Group Hug to keep supporting some of Victoria’s most vulnerable children and families.

We’ll provide a $100,000 grant to help Big Group Hug and their volunteers to continue distributing donated and up-cycled essential items like clothing and baby formula to families in times of need, including those escaping violence.

In the 2022 financial year, Big Group Hug helped 4,271 children, providing over 103,000 items, including 241 cots and portacots that ensured babies had a safe place to sleep.

Labor’s investment will make sure they are well-equipped to continue helping local families – ensuring every Victorian gets the support they need when they need it.

The Labor Government set up Australia’s first Royal Commission into Family Violence and has invested more than $3.7 billion to date to implement each of its 227 recommendations, so that victim survivors have the support they need, when and where they need it.

In sharp contrast, Matthew Guy’s Liberals can’t be trusted when it comes to delivering the vital support that people in our community rely on. Instead, their policy of cuts and closures would leave locals behind.

Only a re-elected Labor Government will back the community organisations that keep our community strong – because only Labor will do what matters.

Quotes attributable to Labor Member for Bundoora Colin Brooks

“This investment will make sure vulnerable Victorians continue getting the support they need and will ensure Big Group Hug’s hardworking volunteers can keep doing what they do best – helping others.”

“Big Group Hug have been serving our community for years and we’re making sure they continue to help vulnerable families, giving good quality goods like prams and highchairs a second home and keeping them out of landfill.”
