Labor's plan for more V/Line, more often - and cheaper fares.

Fairer fares for regional Victorians

With petrol prices increasing, Victorians are watching every dollar.

That's why a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will cap regional public transport fares at the metro rate.

Right now, a daily full-fare from Geelong to Melbourne costs up to $27.60, while a daily ticket from Bendigo is up to $68.80. With the metro daily rate only $9.20, these fares just aren't fair.

By capping regional prices, we'll make it easier for families and commuters in regional Victoria to leave the car at home and get around by train and bus.

These changes will deliver massive savings to passengers:

  • 66 per cent saving for a daily peak from Geelong, with the fare slashed from $27.60 to $9.20

  • 87 per cent saving for a daily peak from Bendigo, with the fare slashed from $68.80 to $9.20

  • 80 per cent saving for a daily peak from Ballarat, with the fare slashed from $45.60 to $9.20

More V/Lines services, more often.

We'll add almost 200 weekend services on regional lines around the state.

From Ballarat to Bendigo, Geelong to Gippsland and more.

This investment will mean:

  • Geelong Line (Waurn Ponds via Wyndham Vale) 20 minute service 8am to 9pm on weekends

  • Ballarat Line (Wendouree via Melton) 40 minute service 8am to 9pm on weekends

  • Seymour Line 60 minute service 8am to 9pm on weekends

  • Traralgon Line 40 minute service 8am to 9pm on weekends

  • Bendigo additional Saturday and Sunday night services (one additional trip each night)

  • Five return services on Saturday and Sunday on the Shepparton, Warrnambool and Ararat Lines

  • Three return services on Saturday and Sunday on the Echuca Line

  • Extending the Sunday service, which currently terminates in Sale, to Bairnsdale on the Gippsland Line

  • We will also deliver an extra weekday service on the Bendigo line between Castlemaine and Bendigo.

And so we have the carriages and trains to run these services, we'll build another 23 VLocity trains to replace older trains.

And we'll be building them right here in Victoria.
