ROUND-THE-CLOCK CARE WHEN PHILLIP ISLAND PATIENTS NEED IT
A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will take immediate action to make sure Phillip Island locals and visitors can access urgent medical care when they need it - 24 hours a day.
We’ve already said we will build a flagship new Community Hospital in Cowes at the Phillip Island Health Hub, complete with day surgery and allied health services. Now it will be open every hour of every day.
Only a Community Hospital will give patients peace of mind that world-class care is just around the corner, no matter when they need it.
As well as 24-hour urgent care, the new Community Hospital will feature a pharmacy, renal dialysis, diagnostic imaging and pathology services, dental services and maternal and child health services. The Community Hospital will also have family violence support services, to provide dedicated services for victim survivors.
The Phillip Island community has told us they want round-the-clock urgent care on the island, and we’ve listened.
Unlike the Liberals, we’ll build a state-of-the-art new Community Hospital with all the services locals need – and we’ll make sure urgent care is on offer on the Island. Urgent care will be available from a doctor and a nurse at the Phillip Island Health Hub as a temporary measure, with telehealth facilities and links to clinicians at Wonthaggi Hospital for extra support – in time for the summer peak period.
It’s all part of Labor’s $675 million fund to build and upgrade community hospitals in our suburbs and regional towns.
Labor will also put more world-leading specialists into the regions, paving the way for 500,000 more specialist appointments in regional and rural Victoria – including at Bass Coast Health – over the next four years.
With private specialist appointments costing between $175 and $565, this investment has the potential to save Victorian patients thousands of dollars. It will mean regional patients won’t be spending hours away from loved ones to access specialist care.
You can’t trust the Liberals when it comes to health. They cut a billion dollars from the health budget when they were last in office, and they’ll do it again if they get the chance.
