The Andrews Labor Government is helping the Northern Grampians get more runs on the board, with a multi-million-dollar upgrade to its community sports and recreation facilities.

Treasurer Tim Pallas today announced that North Park in Stawell and Lord Nelson Park in St Arnaud will receive $3.5 million in upgrades, thanks to funds provided through the Community Sports Infrastructure Loans scheme.

The loan will enable the construction of a brand-new multipurpose clubroom at North Park and a new multipurpose sporting facility at Lord Nelson Park.

In more good news for St Arnaud families, a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver a further $700,000 towards the upgrade of Lord Nelson Park.

Funding will go towards new facilities to help more women and girls play local sports with the construction of female change rooms, as well as umpiring facilities, accessible amenities and function spaces.

Both parks are home to multiple sporting organisations, with North Park catering to football, netball and athletics, and Lord Nelson Park supporting Aussie rules, netball, cricket and hockey.

The upgrades will expand the number of sports programs on offer, boost participation and strengthen community ties through new social spaces and venues for fundraising and events.

The $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Loans scheme provides low-interest rate loans of between $500,000 and $10 million for councils, clubs and organisations to deliver and improve community sport and recreation infrastructure.

While the Liberals cut funding for hospitals and schools, and closed TAFE campuses – only Labor will invest in the projects our community really needs.

The Labor Government has invested $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities, and earlier this year provided almost half a billion dollars in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to support sport and active recreation at all levels across our state.
