NEW TRAFFIC LIGHTS TO CUT THE QUEUES ON LYREBIRD DRIVE
A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will make it safer and easier for drivers turning at of Lyrebird Drive in Carrum Downs, with new traffic lights being installed at the intersection of Ballarto Road.
Traffic lights will cut queuing, make it safer for drivers to get through the intersection and improve traffic flow on Ballarto Road for the 16,000 drivers that rely on it every day.
Locals know how frustrating it can be to get onto busy Ballarto Road, with queuing a problem on Lyrebird Drive in the morning and afternoon peaks.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan joined Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny today to announce that Labor will invest $2.5 million to install traffic lights at the notorious bottleneck.
The upgrade will also provide a safer crossing for pedestrians heading to Botany Park and nearby bus stops.
Over the last five years there have been two casualty crashes recorded at this intersection and only Labor will make these vital safety improvements.
The upgrade follows Labor’s $169 million commitment to fix Hall Road, duplicating 5.2 kilometres from McCormicks Road to Cranbourne-Frankston Road, doubling the existing two lanes to four.
Labor will also build new traffic lights at the intersections of McCormicks Road, Taylors Road, Western Port Highway and Evans Road, and upgrade the intersection at Cranbourne-Frankston Road.
When last in government, the Liberals failed to start and finish a single major road project and sacked 450 workers from VicRoads.
Only Labor will deliver the congestion busting road projects that Victorians need.
