MORE SUPPORT FOR VICTORIAN GOLF CLUBS UNDER LABOR
A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will upgrade golf clubs right across Victoria and invest in stage two of the ‘Home of Golf’ project at Sandringham Golf Club, to make sure more clubs can tee off to even greater heights.
Golf in Victoria contributes $883 million to the state’s economy and supports 6,900 jobs. More than 300,000 Victorians play golf at more than 350 courses across the state and we want to extend our reputation as the golfing capital of Australia.
In four short years we’ve hosted the World Cup of Golf and will host it again this week. We’ve secured the 2020 and 2022 Australian Open golf tournaments, and we’ve secured the 2019 Presidents Cup – the third time we’ve hosted this prestigious tournament.
But we want to help more golf clubs across Victoria expand and grow, and attract even more people to the sport.
If re-elected we will provide $5.3 million towards stage two of the ‘Home of Golf’ project at Sandringham Golf Club, to help maintain ‘Sandy’s’ reputation as one of the sandbelt’s best courses.
We’ll provide an additional 13 bays on the high performance driving range, and we’ll upgrade the existing car park. The golf course will be upgraded with improvements to bunkers, greens and tees, as well as additional water storage.
If re-elected the Labor Government will also provide $2 million in grants for minor upgrades and equipment to golf clubs right around the state, with a number of priority projects earmarked for immediate funding.
We’ll also provide $160,000 over four years for four golf industry scholarships per year – these will cover golf journalism, golf professional, women’s greenkeeper and golf course designer scholarships.
Only Labor will help grow the sport of golf right across Victoria, and ensure golfers are playing on the very best courses and can enjoy the very best facilities.
