LABOR TO DELIVER MORE RELIABLE TRAIN SERVICES FOR BENDIGO
A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver a more reliable and comfortable journey for regional passengers thanks to a massive order of new trains.
In four years, the Andrews Labor Government’s $848.5 million investment in regional trains has provided a 40 per cent increase in regional rail services, with V/Line now running more than 2,000 services every week.
Labor will invest $340 million to build 54 VLocity carriages to make up to 18 new three-car trains. The order will see the retirement of the old unreliable trains on the Geelong and Ballarat lines that currently cause delays and slow down services to Bendigo.
Replacing the Classic Fleet from our regional lines will boost punctuality and reliability across our regional network.
Works are currently underway through the Regional Rail Revival to upgrade every regional rail line in our state. As these works are being completed, we’ll deliver more modern trains to deliver a more reliable service on the Bendigo line.
As part of the Regional Rail Revival, the Labor Government is delivering the $91 million Bendigo Line Upgrade which will improve signalling in and around Bendigo and enable trains on the Echuca line to run faster and more often - cutting travel times for passengers from Victoria’s north.
Bendigo is a vital employment, education and services centre for surrounding communities. That’s why Labor is investing in making it easier to access our city by train.
A re-elected Labor Government will also build three new train stations and begin planning to upgrade the Bendigo line to deliver trains every 40 minutes, as part of the next stage of the Bendigo Metro project.
The $49.6 million project will include new train stations at Goornong, Raywood and Huntly. The single platform stations will have car parking and covered waiting areas with seating.
Labor will also start planning to reopen Harcourt Station and upgrade track on the Bendigo line between Bendigo and Kyneton to allow trains to run every 40 minutes during off peak times giving local passengers more travel options.
This is in stark contrast to the Liberals who ripped $120 million out of V/Line and developed a secret plan to cut 100 jobs. Only Labor will invest in the public transport and trains that regional passengers can rely on.
