KICKING MORE GOALS FOR THE WORLD GAME IN TORQUAY

Families in Torquay will be able to rely on great local sporting facilities, with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to deliver $2 million towards upgrading Banyul-Warri Fields.

Home to the Surf Coast Football Club, record levels of participation and a growing number of teams mean an upgrade is desperately needed for the sporting and community precinct.

That is why Labor will help upgrade the Grant Pavilion with new clubrooms, extra changerooms and a new grandstand.

When it comes to soccer, participation is booming with more than 350,000 Victorians playing the world game.

The Andrews Labor Government is helping local soccer clubs improve their facilities and encouraging more locals to play the world game through the dedicated $2.5 million The World Game Facilities Fund.

With this upgrade from Labor, local clubs and the community will have the great sporting facilities they deserve.

Today’s commitment builds on the Labor Government’s investments to develop a third soccer pitch at the Banyul-Warri Fields, upgrade changerooms for South Barwon Football and Netball Club and build a new indoor basketball stadium for Surf Coast Secondary College. Labor will also deliver $10 million towards the Torquay Aquatic Centre.

While the Liberals cut funding for hospitals and schools and short-changed grassroots sports clubs – only Labor will invest in the projects our community really needs to keep healthy, active and connected.

The Labor Government has delivered the biggest investment in women’s and community sport in Victoria’s history, with $420 million dedicated to grassroots sports.
