Victorians can be confident that in an emergency, they will continue to get the fast, life-saving care they need, with 90 new paramedics to be recruited, more ambulances on the road, and more ambulance stations built and upgraded, under a re-elected Andrews Labor Government.

Under the Liberals, our ambulance system was in crisis. They went to war with our hardworking paramedics and left Victorians waiting too long for life-saving care, sometimes with tragic consequences.

Under the Liberals’ watch, Victoria’s ambulance response times were the worst on the mainland.

Labor promised to end the crisis, and we have. We’ve delivered the biggest investment in our ambulance service in Victoria’s history, funding an extra 450 new paramedics, and building new and upgraded ambulance stations across the state as part of our record support package.

We’ve backed our paramedics, giving them the recognition and respect they deserve, and we’ve ended the culture of secrecy that flourished under the Liberals when response times were kept hidden.

Quarterly response times are now the best in our state’s history, with ambulances arriving at the scene of life-threatening emergencies faster than they ever have before – but there’s still more to do.

That’s why a re-elected Labor Government will provide $109 million to support the life-saving work of paramedics and make sure patients are getting the care they need sooner.

Labor’s investment will see an extra 90 new paramedics recruited – building on the 1000 new paramedics rolled out across the state over the past four years.

And we’ll make sure our hardworking paramedics have the modern facilities and equipment they deserve, with $25 million to upgrade and build new ambulance stations, and deliver 23 new vehicles on the road.

We’ll give paramedics in regional Victoria more support, converting 15 single crew stations into dual crew stations, so that at all times, paramedics can have confidence that someone has their back.

Unlike the Liberals, we value our life-saving paramedics. Only Labor can be trusted to back our paramedics, and ensure Victorians get the critical care they need, when they need it.

Quotes attributable to Premier Daniel Andrews

“Four years ago I made a promise to fix the ambulance crisis and that’s exactly what we’ve done. But when it comes to making sure Victorians get the care they need, there’s still more to do.”

“Paramedics are there when we need them most – and with new recruits and new vehicles, we’ll give families the confidence that even if the worst happens, they’ll be able to rely on our dedicated paramedics.”
