Big School Expansion for Woodmans Hill School

A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver a significant expansion to Woodmans Hill High School.

We’ll invest $8.59 million for major upgrades, including a dedicated space for Year 7s, an extension to the VCE centre to support senior students and a refurbishment of the integrated learning building.

Only a Labor Government will make sure local families have access to the best school facilities – supporting kids to do their best in the classroom.

Since coming to government, we have invested more than $12.8 billion in building and upgrading schools in every corner of the state.

We’re delivering on our commitment to build 100 new schools by 2026 with 75 already funded or opened and we’ve delivered more than 1,850 upgrades to schools since coming to government.

That means thousands of students are learning in more modern classrooms, science labs and libraries and using better facilities at schools like gyms and sports grounds.

And by building and upgrading schools across the state we’ve supported more than 17,400 jobs in construction alone.

We’ve invested more in student mental health and wellbeing than any other jurisdiction in Australia, putting mental health workers into every government school.

We’ve made sure every child has the chance to participate in the activities that make school fun, through the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund.

And we’ve reformed the senior secondary school system, combining VCE and VCAL to create the VCE Vocational Major and Victorian Pathways Certificate – ensuring every young Victorian can get the education they need for the job they want.

Quotes attributable to the Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins

“Our teachers do an amazing job educating Victorian students and that’s why we deliver so many new and upgraded classrooms and facilities at schools right across the state.”

“We want our teachers and students to have what they need to succeed in the classroom.”

Quotes attributable to the Candidate for Eureka Michaela Settle

“It’s a big change for all the family when a child starts secondary school. A dedicated Year 7 building at Woodmans Hill would help students transition to a new, larger school in a welcoming environment. And an extension to the VCE centre would allow senior students to prepare for their exams in a modern space.”

“Woodmans Hill provides an amazing education, and the teachers, like all teachers in our region, are so passionate about giving every child the best start in life - and these new facilities would help to do just that.”
